How It Began

In 2017, Sophie's Change for Change was founded by then fifteen-year old Sophia Kruszewski. She began by raising funds from loose change for her orphanage in China. This was just the beginning of Sophie's passion for helping children in need.

My Story

My name is Sophie Kruszewski and I am so happy you are here. I am dedicated to the wellbeing of children in need, especially during the holiday season. Christmas is a special time in any child's life and I wish to bring joy to children who may not be guaranteed wonderful memories during this time of year.  Christmas is a time of happiness, togetherness, and spirit; therefore, I chose to focus on collecting and distributing new, unwrapped toys so that all children can enjoy the meaning of Christmas among the community.

Children who are put at a disadvantage from their beginning are close to my heart because I was adopted from an orphanage in China. While I was privileged to be adopted into an loving family, not all are as fortunate. In 2017, the first goal of Sophie's Change for Change, Inc. was to collect spare change to put toward a donation to my orphanage. Through the generosity of family, friends, and strangers, I was able to donate an in-room air conditioner. This was the beginning of my love for helping people.

I wanted to continue the giving spirit, but wondered how I could impact my local community. After discovering a need in the Southwest Florida community surrounding children in foster care, I found where I wanted to center my attention. As of 2022, there are over 300 kids in foster care in Collier County and over 700 in Lee County.

I appreciate you taking the time to read about my passion project. Please consider donating to this worthy cause. You can change the lives of so many.
